The 10th anniversary of Empowering Development Project (EDP) was celebrated in a festive atmosphere in New York. On April 26, the event was held at Joya Hall in Queens, featuring a grand celebration with honorary recognitions and captivating cultural performances.
The event was hosted by popular diaspora presenter Sharmin Siraj Sonia. EDP’s Founder and Executive Director, Ambia Begum, delivered the welcome speech.
With full cooperation from the organization’s Director, Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq, and presided over by President M. S. Alam, the event welcomed New York State Senator John Liu as the chief guest.
Special guests included legendary Bangladeshi film actor Ahmed Sharif and his wife, renowned singer Meherun Ahmed, as well as Assembly representative Sagir Khan, among others. Representatives from the Mayor’s Office, State Assembly, and prominent figures from the community also graced the colorful event.
In his keynote address, John Liu praised EDP's success and the remarkable contributions of its founder and Executive Director Ambia Begum to the betterment of the community. State Assembly representative Sagir Khan pledged funding support for EDP.
Popular diaspora singer Chandra Roy mesmerized the audience by performing traditional Bangladeshi songs.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary, the New York City Mayor’s Office and New York State Assembly Member Jennifer Rajkumar presented EDP with official proclamations in recognition of its contributions.
Certificates were awarded to graduates of EDP’s computer training program by EDP’s Founder and Executive Director Ambia Begum and President M. S. Alam, on behalf of City Council Member Shahana Hanif’s office.
Ambia Begum stated that, in recognition of the organization’s contributions to the community, the New York City Council and State Assembly honored EDP with awards and crests. She described this as a unique acknowledgment of EDP’s years of hard work and unwavering dedication to community service. She also emphasized that these recognitions would serve as special inspiration for EDP’s students.
She further added that the entire event was a proud reflection of EDP’s ten years of dedication, sacrifice, and continuous efforts toward community development. It was a memorable day for the organization. Announcing EDP’s future plans and expansion goals, Executive Director Ambia Begum expressed confidence that the organization would continue to play a greater role in the welfare of the wider community.
