To mark the 10th anniversary of the Empowering Development Project, Inc. (EDP), a vibrant celebration was held on April 26 in New York. The event took place at Joya Party Hall in Queens, New York City, and was attended by elected representatives from the New York State Senate, State Assembly, and City Council, who came to offer their congratulations. This made the occasion a memorable day for the local community.
During the event, New York State Senator John Liu and Community Affairs Officer from the NYC Mayor’s Office, Shokrani Dhanpat, praised EDP’s founder and Executive Director, Ambia Begum, for her tireless work in uplifting the lives of hardworking community members. They commended her courage and perseverance and pledged their sincere support for EDP’s continued mission in the coming years.
Ambia Begum was presented with a special proclamation in recognition of EDP’s impactful work, awarded by the New York State Assembly and the NYC Mayor’s Office. Additionally, Councilwoman Shahana Hanif issued certificates to graduates of EDP’s Computer Training Program, a gesture that Ambia Begum noted would serve as a powerful source of inspiration for the students.
The event was smoothly coordinated under the supervision of EDP Program Manager Abdullah Zubayer, and hosted by popular community presenter Sharmin Sonia, with assistance from EDP Director Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq.
Special guests included legendary Bangladeshi film actor Ahmed Sharif, Executive Member of Bangladesh Society Jahangir Suhrawardy, and celebrated Bangladeshi singer Chandra Roy, who captivated the audience with traditional Bangladeshi songs that deeply touched the hearts of attendees.
