Empowering Development Project Incorporated (EDP) celebrated its 10th anniversary in New York.
The event took place on Friday, April 26, at a restaurant in Rego Park, New York, featuring a variety of festivities.
For years, EDP has been working to empower underprivileged women in New York by helping them achieve financial independence. Through skill development training, micro-business loans, vocational education, and entrepreneurial support, the organization has been making a significant impact on women’s empowerment.
Ambia Begum Antora, the founder and Executive Director of EDP, said, “EDP began its journey nearly ten years ago with a far-reaching vision. We have been working to increase women's decision-making power through literacy programs, scholarships, leadership training, and better access to healthcare. EDP continues to work tirelessly for women’s rights, gender equality, and community development.”
The event's chief guest was New York State Senator John Liu. He praised EDP’s achievements and commended Ambia Begum for her contributions to community development. During the event, EDP was honored with two special proclamations from the New York City Mayor's Office and the State Assembly.
City Council Member Shahana Hanif was also present. She awarded certificates to students from EDP’s computer training program. EDP’s President M.S. Alam was also in attendance.
In recognition of its special contributions, EDP received a crest and award from the New York City Council and the State Assembly.
Prominent figures from the Bangladeshi community in New York, including Assembly representative Sagir Khan, were present at the event.
Legendary Bangladeshi film actor Ahmed Sharif and his wife joined the celebration as special guests.
The event was made even more vibrant by the lively hosting of Sharmin Sonia and the overall support provided by Ashiqur Rahman Ashik. Popular expatriate singer Chandra Roy captivated the audience with her renditions of traditional Bangladeshi songs.
